Feb 15, 2023

Today you will discover five simple things you must do when visiting the beautiful coastal town of Yeppoon.

These have been chosen for you because they are essential if you want to have a great visit.

You see, Yeppoon is a very special place. It sits right on one of the most magnificent stretches of coastline in the world and it has a wonderfully relaxed and friendly atmosphere. But more than anything else, Yeppoon is unique because... it offers something for everyone!

But I will leave the adrenaline adventures for another blog post.

Below are 5 things you must do when visiting Yeppoon

Visit Great Keppel Island

Great Keppel Island is one of the most beautiful places to visit that is only a short 30min ferry ride from the main land. It has 17 uncrowded white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and a tropical island atmosphere.

In contrast to other popular islands along the Great Barrier Reef, there is no major hotel, or casino and no golf courses on Great Keppel Island. What you will find here is a truly "unplugged" location, a pristine unspoiled natural paradise where you can really get away from it all.

Great Keppel Island caters for bath day trippers and visitors for an extended stay.

When you arrive you can do as much or as little as you want. You can hire stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, snorkelling gear and jet skis, or you can simply lay on the beach with your favourite book.

When it's time to eat you have a choice of going to Tropical Vibes or The Hideaway, both serve alcohol and other selections of drinks. These are located along Fishermans Beach with The Hideaway on the point of FIshermans and Putney Beach.

"Visiting Great Keppel Island" is a must do when you are in Yeppoon.

There is easy to find fringing coral reefs located around the island where the 5 Best Snorkelling spots on Great Keppel Island, right off the beach.

Walk the Yeppoon foreshore and have a Swim at the Yeppoon Lagoon

There has been a lot of work completed to the Yeppoon foreshore including the construction of the Yeppoon Lagoon since Yeppoon experience a severe Cyclone back in February of 2015.

The introduction of the Kraken Water Play area located centrally along the foreshore, and later the construction of the Yeppoon Lagoon, with upgrades to the nearby Skate park and gardens makes for the foreshore of Yeppoon a great place to visit.

Along the foreshore you will find people running, walking, riding bikes, roller skating, kids on scooters and skate boards, with families and couples taking in the scenery at any time of the day and night.

As you walk along the foreshore path heading south towards and around the Keppel Bay Sailing Club, you will find the Yeppoon Lagoon.

The Yeppoon Lagoon is a beautiful resort style swimming pool with an infinity edge overlooking the Keppel bay and out to the Keppel Islands that has been built as a safe place for children and adults to swim.

You will see lots of people enjoying this area, it's very social and has something for everyone.

There are BBQ facilities, table and chairs and the entry is free.

Go on a Sunset Cruise

Yeppoon has some of the most breath taking sunsets. And, you can enjoy them from the water while cruising in the Keppel Bay and there is no better way to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets, than to do it from a boat, while cruising in the Keppel Bay.

Both Funtastic Cruises and Sail Capricorn provide sunset cruises.

Depending on the time of sunset, Funtastic Cruises has sunset cruises departing at various times. The cruise lasts for approx 1.5 hours and gives you plenty of time to soak in the sunset and views of the Keppels.

Sail Capricorn also have a 1.5hr sunset cruise that departs Keppel Bay Marina on board Grace II. You can chillax and enjoy the vistas all by yourself, or you can chat with your fellow cruisers.

Both cruises offer a glass of champagne, and when you step on board, you'll be treated to a delicious deli platter of cheese. You can bring your own drinks if you desire.

Some of the best sunrises on the east coast of Australia can be found in Yeppoon. The sun rises from behind the islands or out of the water depending on the time of year.

There are amazing sunrises all year round, but it is extra spectacular during the months from about May through to September. The colours just seem to take on a whole hue.

If you are planning to catch the sunrise you will need to be at your vantage point by about 5am during the months from October - February, and a little later at 5:30am during the cooler months of March - September.
